Yesterday, after taking a statement from his accuser, detectives ruled there was insufficient evidence to continue investigating.
Mr Bridgen, the MP for North West Leicestershire, said he would now be taking legal advice about possible action over the case.
The saga is likely to trigger a new debate on whether suspects accused of sex offences should be allowed to keep their anonymity until convicted.
Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall, rock star Paul Weller and former
TV presenter John Leslie have all been severely embarrassed by sex allegations which came to nothing.
Last Saturday the Mail reported that Mr Bridgen’s accuser had
been drunkenly flirting with men in a nearby pub hours before her encounter with the MP, and that police were likely to drop the case within days.

We also disclosed that a civil servant who was in Mr Bridgen’s
flat at the time of the alleged incident supported his version of events.
The accuser, a larger-than life character in Westminster, cannot be named for legal reasons but appears to have put her alleged ordeal behind her very quickly.
Earlier this week, she posted a picture of herself happily preparing to go to Royal Ascot on a social networking website.
Married father-of-two Mr Bridgen welcomed the police decision to drop the case.
‘Naturally, I remain hurt and angry that such a ludicrous, false and unsubstantiated allegation should have been given the attention it has,’ he said.
'The allegation was unfair and hurtful not just to myself but to
my wife and children.’

Since annabelle Fuller is not only 'working' The Westminster Bubble, has befouled UKIP's name with similar shameless lies she has had published, her foul language and also her abuse of trust that presumably she wiould not have sunk so low as to embroil UKIP in such a despicable and self serving bit of publicity seeking as to falsely accuse someone and surely was not involved in false accusations against a string of other minor nobodies, as the paper implies of the seemingly enebriated trash in the case of Andrew Bridgen.
That Annabelle Fuller was clearly working Ascott, presumably for clients and a number of the girls there that day were wearing Home for Heroes colours I note Fuller was no:
She may well be able to assist the police in clearing Andrew Bridgen's name as surely she would have spotted the individual who the press have quoted as she too 'works' The Westminster Bubble.
I guess that if she was looking for a way to make the public aware of the true identity of the odious little woman who has made much of what was clearly little, in view of the audience, company and readily posted camera man for the fantasy of distress - Perhaps she could publish her secrets on her lap top and leave it in a taxi - ensuring the taxi driver's mate would be in Morrocco with her at the same time as publishing the 'story' from a rapidly cobbled together Morrocco based ISP.
There would of course under such circumstances be no need to report the lap top missing as the taxi driver can be relied on to return the item once the 'story' is posted in Morocco.
Naturally having been at Ascot she will be able to clearly identify the low life associated with Andrew Bridgen and the embarrassment caused for all - let us hope Annabelle Fuller breaks the habits of a seeming lifetime and acts honourably, rather than heap more shame on UKIP and the Military her Father keeps trying to bail her out with!
From the tenor of the paper's comments it does seem prety clear that whoever has seemingly set up Andrew Bridgen is a contemptible piece of trash and surely Annabelle fuller would be able to help clean up the scum that hover around politicians as if they were of some value or competence - or is it that they make a living out of exploiting their insecurity, inadequacy and vanity!
