Last Sunday a man I am very honoured to have spoken with extensively over several years died - it was not until his death last Sunday that I realised his age. In our conversations he was generous with his time and tolerant of my naive questions as I sought to learn ever more about my Country's enemies of The EU.

I deffer to the words of Christopher Booker who knew him considerably better than I.

After eight years of tortuous discussion, the Lisbon Treaty, by hook or by crook (but mostly, some would say, by crook), is all but a done deal. The EU will shortly have its constitution by any other name and take its place on the world stage as a fully fledged government, complete with its President (not Tony Blair), Foreign Minister (not David Miliband), an unelected Cabinet (in the shape of the European Council) and enormous new powers over all our lives.

Strangely, however, thanks to the skulduggery whereby they had to pretend that the treaty was not the constitution they wanted, we are not yet officially allowed to read the constitution we shall all have to live under. To assist their sleight of hand, the document the politicians signed at Lisbon consists only of amendments to previous treaties (copied out verbatim from the rejected constitution). Read out of context, these amount to little more than gobbledegook.

The one person who made it possible for us to read our new constitution in comprehensible form was Brigadier Anthony Cowgill of the British Management Data Foundation (BMDF). With extraordinary diligence, and much aided by his son Andrew, he produced a "consolidated" version of the treaty, putting all the amendments into context. What is more, over the past 17 years, Tony Cowgill had performed this invaluable service for each new European treaty in turn, used by politicians, civil servants, lawyers and others all over Europe.

On Thursday night this remarkable man, an unsung hero of our time and a good friend of mine for over 20 years, died just before his 94th birthday. Last Sunday, in my last conversation with him, he said "the secret of remaining active is to remain active".

I hope to be able to pay proper tribute elsewhere to Tony Cowgill's various impressive contributions to our country's life, including his leading part in correcting the woeful misrepresentations of the episode in Austria at the end of the Second World War, when we handed back a large number of Cossacks to the Soviet Union. Brigadier Anthony Cowgill, who died on October 29 aged 93, had a varied career as a soldier; as chief industrial engineer for Rolls-Royce; and providing high-level liaison between many of Britain's leading companies and government policy-makers. But his two most notable contributions – illuminating one of the most controversial episodes of the Second World War and explaining the "gobbledegook" of EU treaties – were made at an age when most people have retired.

The first of these achievements centred on the British Army's handover, in Austria in 1945, of 47,000 Cossacks to the Soviet Union. This later led to widely publicised allegations that Harold Macmillan, in 1945 Britain's political representative in the Mediterranean, and Lord Aldington, a senior officer in Austria at the time, had conspired to defy orders and higher command by handing over the Cossacks to almost certain death. Exhaustive researches by a small team headed by Cowgill showed that the charges were baseless and had arisen from a fundamental misreading of the historical evidence.

The second initiative to win him plaudits was to present the ever more complex series of European treaties in a form which made them uniquely comprehensible. His annotated editions of each treaty, from Maastricht to Lisbon, continue to prove invaluable to politicians and many others.

Anthony Cowgill was born on November 7 1915, the son of a Yorkshire mill manager. Educated at Bradford and Manchester Grammar Schools, he went on to graduate in Mining Engineering at Birmingham University. Shortly before the start of the Second World War he signed up for the regular Army, joining the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers after Sandhurst. He spent a year in Canada helping to develop the waterproofing of tanks, a secret weapon key to the success of the Normandy invasion in 1944. Landing in France shortly after D Day, he served on Montgomery's 2nd Army headquarters' staff until the end of the war, and was present at Luneberg Heath in May 1945 when Montgomery took the surrender of the German forces in northern Europe. Shortly afterwards Cowgill was awarded a military MBE.

He was then, as India prepared for Independence in 1947, seconded to the Partition Commission, organising the separation of the country's armed forces between India and Pakistan, after which he was assigned to the new Pakistani army. This led to what he described as the most worrying moment of his life. Returning to his Lahore headquarters one day he found himself, in British Army uniform, the only white man on a train overrun by thousands of armed Pathan tribesmen bent on seizing Kashmir. Sure his last hour had come, he was highly relieved when, addressing him as "sahib", they treated him instead with friendly respect.

After serving in the Korean War, Cowgill eventually retired from the Army as a brigadier in 1969 to become Chief Industrial Engineer to Rolls-Royce. He was closely involved in the final stages of the development of the revolutionary RB-211 jet engine, the costs of which led to the firm's bankruptcy and its nationalisation by the Heath Government in 1971, although the RB-211 was ultimately a huge commercial success. In 1979 Cowgill set up the highly-respected British Management Data Foundation (BMDF), run from his home in the Cotswolds, to provide expert briefing to many of the leading companies in British industry and to assist them in high-level liaison with government on matters of common concern.

In 1986, then aged 71, he was shocked to read The Minister and the Massacres, a book by Count Nikolai Tolstoy accusing Harold Macmillan of having conspired with senior Army officers in 1945 to commit a "war crime" by handing over large numbers of surrendered Cossack and Yugoslavs to face death at the hands of their Communist enemies, in flagrant breach of military orders. Since this was the gravest charge ever levelled at a British prime minister or at the British Army, he invited Lord Brimelow, a former permanent head of the Foreign Office, and the journalist Christopher Booker, both of whom had studied this unhappy episode, to join him in a full investigation of the facts.

Initially all three had found Tolstoy's account persuasive, but were aware that there were significant gaps in the evidence. By a remarkable feat of detective work over four years, Cowgill managed to track down all the missing signals and orders necessary to a proper understanding of what had happened. In particular, thanks to inspired guesswork, he discovered in a Washington archive 127 unopened boxes containing many key documents previously thought lost. What gradually emerged was a picture of the events totally at odds with the version given by Tolstoy.

In 1989 many of these documents played a part in the libel action brought by Lord Aldington against Tolstoy, resulting in the largest libel damages ever awarded in a British court (£1.6 million, although this was never paid). When, in 1990, the Cowgill team published, it revealed that the part played by Macmillan had been quite irrelevant to the fate of the Cossacks. The handovers had been fully authorised from General Alexander down, in full accord with established Allied policy. Indeed, several of the "massacres" described by Tolstoy had never in fact taken place and the majority of Cossacks were released from gulags after a year. Cowgill's report, The Repatriations from Austria in 1945, was praised by leading historians as a model of its kind.

In 1992 Cowgill was again shocked to learn that Parliament was being asked to approve the Maastricht treaty before MPs had been given the chance properly to read it. All they were given was a series of amendments to the existing treaties, which read out of context were no more than gobbledegook (a Foreign Office minister said it would be "improper" to publish a complete version of the treaty before it was ratified). With the aid of his son Andrew, Cowgill worked round the clock to produce a "consolidated" version, putting all the amendments in context. Sir Keith Joseph, a former Tory Cabinet minister, then arranged for copies to be circulated to every MP before the Maastricht Bill came up for second reading.

The BMDF's edition of the treaty proved so uniquely valuable that it was given semi-official status, much in demand by policy-makers and many others, not only in Britain, but also in Europe and America (one admirer was Henry Kissinger). Cowgill and his son went on to produce similarly authoritative editions of all the subsequent EU treaties, right up to their latest, The Lisbon Treaty In Perspective.

Tony Cowgill was a shrewd observer of the world, believing that public policy must be "data driven", and rest on properly researched evidence. It was this which led him to increasing scepticism on many issues, from the value of our membership of the EU to global warming. In 1948 he married Anne, whom he had met in India where she was serving as a WRNS officer. She died in 2005, and he is survived by their son and daughter.

1. IN THE BEGINNING

The first leader of UKIP, when it was founded towards the end of 1993, was Dr. Alan Sked who was, and still is (as far as I know), a senior lecturer at the London School of Economics. In 1994 Farage proposed that the party endeavour to campaign for UKIP to have MEP representation in the European Parliament. Dr. Sked was adamantly opposed to this proposal, as he thought it would indicate that the United Kingdom had agreed to be subservient to the European Union. Farage’s argument was that UKIP MEPs would generate income for the party and doors, which would otherwise remain closed to our party, would be opened. Farage won the day and Dr. Sked, together with several others, including Colin Bullen (who went on to be a leading light in The Campaign for an Independent Britain), resigned from UKIP.

So, right from the start, Farage has been hugely influential in the policies adopted by UKIP. Indeed, he has been either leader or de facto leader of the party ever since.

All political movements need a figurehead and Farage fulfils that role for UKIP. His energy and passion attract many, particularly the young, and his utilisation of the power of on-line social networking, and especially the online video sharing programme, YouTube, which show his passionate exchanges in the European Parliament to the generally younger viewers.

Without doubt, the fortunes of UKIP are closely linked with the style of leadership and management abilities of Farage, so let us have a look at the history of the party’s ups and downs over the past 17 years.

Dr. Alan Sked resigned as leader of the party in July 1997 and named the then Party Chairman and Treasurer, Craig Mackinlay, as leader. Mackinlay decided that the only way to keep the party going was to rework its constitution and hold a leadership election. Mackinlay, Gerald Roberts, and Michael Holmes stood, with the backing of Farage. Michael Holmes easily won and appointed Mackinlay as his deputy.

Craig Mackinlay resigned from UKIP in 2005 and joined the Conservative Party. I do not have any information on his reasons for leaving UKIP.

Michael Holmes, having won the leadership election in 1997 was, in the same year, elected as an MEP representing the South West. In the same election Farage was elected as an MEP in the South East. As a result of a power struggle, precipitated by an unfortunate remark by Michael Holmes in the European Parliament, and his dismissal of Craig Mackinlay and Tony Scholefield from the NEC, which generated a vote of no confidence in Holmes, he stepped down as leader in 2000.

However, it should be noted that, under Michael Holmes leadership, the membership of UKIP doubled.

Jeffrey Titford was elected as the new leader of UKIP, beating Rodney Atkinson (brother of the comedian Rowan Atkinson) by 15 votes and, again, Farage had backed the winner.

Many believed that Titford should have appointed Rodney Atkinson as deputy leader or, at least, to a position of responsibility within the party. However, because Rodney Atkinson had exposed Conrad Black (who at that time owned the Telegraph group of newspapers) as a member of the Bilderberg Group, Conrad Black put UKIP under pressure not to appoint Rodney Atkinson to a position of authority within UKIP.

That Bill Jamieson & Christopher Booker as well respected journalists who had ardently supported both the EUroSceptic cause and UKIP Both unequivocally announced they would be unable to support UKIP if Atkinson became leader is clear - it is both fancifull and dishonest to imply this statement was made on the instruction of Black!

As I said I have published the DH compilation though there are some glaring errors - I have done so in good faith as a record of perceived facts as they are quoted.

Now that the utterly predictable debacle of UKIP's election results are known what must the EUrorealist movement that espouses Leave-The-EU do?


Results which in every detail lived down to my pragmatic prediction with NO significant gains, where Farage stated clearly that one seat or more was likely in the Welsh EU Council (Clearly a ridiculous expectation) - 2 targeted seats at Stormont (again no likelihood or evidence), a gain of around 24 Councillors - on what feedback was that even possible?

Canute had the wisdom to appreciate the venal stupidity of his sycophants - sadly Farage seems to believe their every word!

Spin and propaganda are how political leadership teams keep their positions with their snouts in the trough - using other peoples' money to bribe their own praise singers.

It was ever the way with weak and inadequate leaders only the strong and the competent make their praise singers take their thrones to the low tide line to prove their sycophants wrong.

Sadly, though UKIP is our only visible lifeboat, whatever the position UKIP is unfit for purpose ONE performing monkey does not constitute leadership.

Farage can and usually is an excellent performer and without doubt UKIP's second greatest asset after its Leave-The-EU policies.

So UKIP has both the performing monkey and the right tune to attract the crowds on the Organ but what is conspicuously absent is a competent and experienced Organ Grinder.

Sadly until an Organ Grinder materialises the Organ lies in the ditch neglected, the tune has been diluted and is coming out as discordant blurts and squirts (Denny, Duffy, Fuller, Towler, Croucher, McGough, Gulleford, Bannerman, Reeve, Ransom, Clark, Andreasen & the other parasites on the make and the take!) and the monkey is driving away all competent performers to stay in control of the peanuts!

UKIP sadly is thus unfit for purpose until or unless it can find a strong leader who can CONTROL the idiocy.

Without leadership UKIP is just a hinderance to the Leave-The-EU EUroSceptics and EUroRealists - 80% in polls of the British peoples show they want to Leave-The-EU or at very least remove the Political interferrence and endless theft of British money to fund corruption and incompetence in continental EUrope.

Let us consider how UKIP can be turned around after removal of the rotten head of this particularly dangerous dead fish now landed on our only visible lifeboat.

May I suggest the way to move forward:

01. Hard work, recognition, reward and clear badging of achievements - The salaried can not be seen to be achieving worthy of praise THEY ARE PAID - that is their job and if they fail to do it fire them or move them to their competence level.

02. Build Trust based on openness transparency and clear organisational structure (Rob McWhirtter's much demanded 'Organogram') with participation FROM the grass routes and input from the base line.

03. A Vision which is simple and can clearly be imparted.

04. Training of a growing core of people. Structured and continuous.

05. Clear simple understandable strategy for every level.

06. Clarity of a single core message.

07. Structured tactics at every level.

08. Encouragement and promotion of activists to try to surpass you.

09. Removal of ALL indispensable individuals - every task must be no more than a task NOT a Personal cult or empire building excercise.

10. FAB - Sell The Features, Advantages & Benefits of THE product.

IF you really want to take this seriously you could do worse than Read 'Mein Kampf' - a document which together with 'Das Capital', I believe, sources back to The Cathars.

Of course they are tedious, tendentious and dated but the core principles are well worth studying.

To understand The EU and best prepare to dismantle it I would strongly suggest the best book to read is 'The European Parliament' by Richard Corbett, Frances Jacobs and Michael Shackleton - technocratic unimaginitive purists, and proponents of the EU (their gravy train and income source!) they provide every detail of its aims, its structures and where it is going wrong and thus how it can be dismantled! (Know thine enemy)

Richard North & Christopher Booker's 'The Great Deception' is indubitably the best book to understand the background and project the hidden present and future ambitions. (Know thine enemy)

I trust this helps in the ongoing low grade war of attrition to Leave-The-EU.

Hi,

in trying to seek out more background on the fantasies and naiivity of Norman Tebbit in his efforts to smear UKIP some years ago I tripped over this item of fantasy on UKIP Uncovered.

It is almost as amusingly inaccurate as the foolish fabrications of poor old Christina Speight and the vitriolic and equally inconsequential Odly Ratkinson and his mistress from Chepstow.

I have a wonderfull sensor for the integrity and morality of blogs and general reportage of many of UKIP's enemises at grass roots who seek to abuse the aims of the core membership for their own gain - It is quite simply to read their comments about me!

Few seem to overlook the opportunity of stating in about every second posting they make how staggeringly ill informed I am and how irrelevant - yet to date NOT ONE has ever in their ignorant abuse managed to find a single solitary inaccuracy of any consequence that I have EVER posted anywhere on any subject.

Further a measure of the integrity of their comments for me is to measure their comments about me against the absolute facts which I can and have produced - The conspiracy theories they have conducted about me are at times of a level that John Le Carre would be proud of - but to date they are almost without exception utter rubbish.

To show hoe completely irrelevant I clearly am The Fartin Mole on UKIP Uncovered concocted the following item - do note I do not deny that I mailed the 'e'Mail he claims to Nigel Farage's publicly available and quoted OPEN EU Office 'e'Mail - To embellish his fabrication the Fartin Mole distorted/Spins his whole point by failing to point out that it was one of about 100 'e'Mail addresses I maile with the comment - No Secret There Then!

Just a lie on UKIP Uncovered - not so much a lie I guess but a deliberate effort made by failure to tell the truth that led to his latest idiotic conspiracy theory.

This clearly ties in with the bleatings of failure as a politician and defeat of his chances of getting to the troughs on the gravy train of Rodney Atkins in his letter of CLICK HERE

If only these many assorted fools and conspiracy theorists would bother to check facts but why would the likes of Fartin Mole, Independent UKIP, Christina Speight, skeptyk and many more let the truth get in the way of inventing a good conspiracy!

The GLW E-Mail that made UKIP 'What It Is'

The Greg Lance-Watkin's e-mail that Blew Apart the last UKIP Leadership Election and delivered the party into the hands of the Cabal that controls it to this day is quoted in full below.

First a boast from Greg Lance-Watkins to Eurocritical on 15th March 2000 as to what he had achieved:-

(NB: this came to us anonymously but we have sought verification as to its authenticity from various participants to these events, several of whom have confirmed that this was the version circulated).

UKIP Leadership Election

As two Sunday Telegraph columnists who have been among UKIP's most active allies in the media, and who have to a certain extent staked our journalistic credibility on our support for the Party, may we express our particularly deeply felt concerns over the present leadership elections?

It is clearly vital, from everyone's point of view, that UKIP should choose a leader who can command the widest possible support both inside and outside the Party; and in this context it is our strongly held view that this must mean choosing a NEW leader. The past year has seen far too many embarrassments and missed opportunities for there to be anything other than a
complete break with the past.

But, in terms of our public support for UKIP, we regret it is equally vital that the Party should choose someone whose analysis of the nature and failings of the European Union is based on a serious, up-to-date understanding of how and why the EU is developing in the way it is; and not some wider conspiracy theory which, however compelling to a minority of members, cannot be shared by the vast majority. We believe at least one of the candidates for the leadership falls into this latter category, Mr. Rodney Atkinson. It is our personal concern that any leader holding such views might take the Party in directions where it would be impossible for us to follow, as we would sadly have to make clear.

We very much hope the members of UKIP will choose a leader who can take the Party forward on the broadest possible front, and in a way to which we can both continue to give our enthusiastic support.
