Hi,

since UKIP claimed the election of a town councillor - The Mare of Ramsay as seemingly their star achievement during the last National Local Elections - as some great achievement it seems only fair to occasionally flag up similar nationally irrelevant elections such as the by-election in Uttoxeter, with a population of 13,000, for a new Town Councillor in one of the wards.

The result was as follows:


44.9% - Conservative - Natasha WOOD
31.4% - Labour - Ian HENDERSON
13.7% - Libertarian principles - Gavin WEBB
10.1% - UKIP - Philip LANCASTER

A really rather good result for UKIP with way above their normal percentage putting them 4th. in a 4 horse race! In this case the result was unusually high for UKIP as Philip Lancaster is not only well known but personally respected in the area, perhaps he could do more for his community and the cause of leaving The EU were he to stand as an independent based on his personal reputation rather than be associated with the extremist EFD, UKIP's partners in the EU.

As it is clear that Philip Lancaster's vote was largely based on his personality he may well have been hampered by his UKIP association & as such races go it may be some time before we see a UKIP Mare win at Uttoxeter Track.
